Cortez High Twelve Club #538

Bob Rodd, (PSP)

Only 5 Mondays in April which means only 5 Cortez Hi-12 # 538 get together  before we go dark until next November.  It is not too late for you and, if you have one, please bring your lady, to come and visit us.  We have had several visitors over the past 5 months as well as having several of them decide they wanted to officially join our Club.

We do have several snowbirds, some from the U.S. and some from Canada and starting around mid March they start heading north. Seems a bit early to me as sometimes they still get that white stuff¸ called snow.  Even if that doesn’t happen there is a good chance they will get cooolllddd weather¸ Brrrrrrr.

In March we surely did have a lot of fun.   Some of the things which, if you were not with us you missed,  including our monthly auction, touring of a working dairy farm which included a hayride, etc.  We also as a group enjoyed the Sahib Banjo Band as well as a wonderful day out on Bradenton Beach for our annual picnic.  We had a great BBQ with beef and chicken which was donated by one of our Cortez Club Brothers, Jim Simpson for which we thank he and his lady Carol very much.  We also had many side dishes including some special desserts brought by those attending.  We had somewhere around the mid thirties I believe in attendance.   Also in March at one of our weekly get-togethers we were enchanted by the lovely country music, with Guitar and song by Sharon who was dressed up totally in country garb and who is the lady of our Club member Harold Rhyno.  She kept us spellbound for a half hour.

As I said in the beginning we only have the 5 Mondays in April till we go dark until November.  Please come and visit with us.

Place Duff’s Original Buffet at the corner of 60th Ave and Route 41 in Bradenton.  We usually arrive between 10:30 and 11AM.  We eat at 11AM with our program starting around High 12 (Noon).   Remember 1st Monday in April (April 2nd) will be our Auction.  Other than that it will be a month to eat, visit, make new friends and say see you later to others as they head North for the Summer.  If you have questions please email me or give me a call or talk to any of our Club members.   Look forward to hearing and seeing you.

Bro..Michael Choman opened the meeting, igniting the Ritual Lights, opening the Bibl e, leading us in the Pledge of

Allegiance to the Flag, and giving  the opening Invocation. We then welcomed Maurice Vercoe and his Lady Margaret.

We have just received noti ce that Lady Edna Toe, a very sweet Lady and beloved companion of Bro.Seymour Beninson, has passed away. Our Club will make a donation in her name to the Wolcott Foundation, and our sincere condolences go to Seymour.

Lady Delitha Dickman, has suffered a stroke and is recovering at the Hamlin Place of Boynton,2180 Hypoluxo Rd. Lantana,FL 33462, phone 561· 582·6711.  Visiting hours are from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The President told about his attendance at the one·day Florida High Twelve Convention on December 5, 2011, in The Villages in Central Florida.     The Convention was addressed by the current Master of Masons in Florida,M.  W. Jim J. Harris, who is himself a High Twelvian.     He mentioned that  there are 48,000 Masons in Rorida  and High Twelve has about 650 members; therefore, there is a great opportunity  to go out and obtain  the members from that 48,000.     Also present at the Convention was Sid Leluan  III, the International High Twelve President, who also gave us a dynamic speech encouraging us to grow High Twelve, which now exists in England and Japan, with Mexico and Brazil coming up in the future.

With this encouragement, the President suggested that we proceed to enlist new members and outlined the following steps:

1.         Notices of the meetings to be sent to the Secretaries of the various Lodges requesting that the notices of our meetings to be posted on their bulletin boards;

2.          During the next four months, a High Twelve member give a short speech about High Twelve at Lodge a lodge Meeting and encourage the attendants to visit us. The content of the speech can be taken from our new  brochure,  as well  as provide  information emphasizing how  easy it is  to  become  a High Twelvian, the forthcoming meetings, place, time, etc.; and

3.         The new High Twelve brochures be left in the Lodges.

In order to follow up on this plan, the following members are going to see that the notices are posted and that High

Twelve information is presented at the Lodge meetings:

Eduardo Mondragon Larry Choman AngelPerez Bernhard Kainer

Harmonia and Gardens Gulfstream, Bycota, Lantana Palmwood

Boca·Delray and Boynton Beach

The President showed the Wolcott Patch given at the Convention to our Club indicating that  $9.00 per member had been contributed to the Wolcott Fund during the past year.  The patch will be sewn onto the Club's banner.

Henry Siegeland Eduardo Mondragon has agreed to be Directors of the Club for one year and to meet periodically to discuss programs that will attract new members and other matters for the advancement of the Club.

In order to make it convenient for new members who attend to business during the day to visit our Cul b, the next three meetings will be the Third Tuesday of the month, evening meetings from 6:30p.m.to 8:00p.m. (At the latest).

The ladies who participate in the Luncheon Meetings have been called and offered transportation to and from the evening meetings.

Lady Bonnie Choman suggested that we send out a survey asking what positions the members are willing to take for carrying on the Club, and also to survey what would be their preferences for future meetings.(Enclosed)

The Little Red School House collected $17.00.

The dues for current members will continue to be $25.00. The President suggested that new members' dues be $35.00 as our dues will certainly increase.

The meeting concluded with Bro. Michael Choman giving the closing prayer, then closing the Bible and the Ritual Lights.

Our 52nd Year
at The Masonic Social Network Club of the Palm Beaches@

Our December Christmas Luncheon – Friday, December 16, 2011.

The members were greeted with traditional Eggnog and background music provided by Mark’s Piano Stylings.

The meeting was opened by Bro. Seymour Beninson lighting the Ritual Lights and opening the Bible, then leading the Pledge of Allegiance.  Bro. Michael Choman made the opening prayer.

Our guests included Ms. Marti Ashcroft, Ms. Roberta Allen, and our Guest Speaker, Ms. Joyce Kaufman, Radio Show Host of AM 850-WTFL.

Those celebrating birthdays this month are Adriana Sinot, Marilyn Kay, Bro. Angel Perez, Bro. Roberto Cruz and Yaremy Cruz, and Elizabeth Crowley. (Ms. Dee Dickman, whose birthday is also in December, had a stroke and was reported to  be recovering well at JFK).

Merry Christmas and Holiday Wishes were received from the Masonic Florida High Twelve President, Ray Trudeau and Lady Janet.

Brothers Ross Cooper and Eduardo Mondragon were presented with their Membership Certificates.

Our Guest Speaker, Ms. Joyce Kaufman, was introduced and spoke on the importance of keeping the past alive and relevant for present and future generations, by eliciting the remembrances of their lives, be it from relatives, friends, or acquaintances, and recording them.   Using methods as tape recordings or dictating memoirs to someone close, these cherished memories become very significant to loved ones.   Joyce told about her own special background, her family, and some of her experiences, all making for a very interesting presentation.

Lunch was served accompanied by Mark’s Piano Stylings and sing-along of Christmas melodies.

Then Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus (Bro. Roy Strohacker and Lady Caroline), in costume, distributed the gifts that the elves had helped them bring from far away.   Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus also treated us to a lovely duet of “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas.”

And a good time was had by all.

A GOOD NEW YEAR WAS WISHED TO EVERYONE.

FEBRUARY 2012

***CONGRATULATIONS TO THOSE CELEBRATING THEIR BIRTHDAY OR ANNIVERSARY IN FEBRUARY***

From President John Merryman: Here we are at the threshold of another New Year:   new challenges, new opportunities, new problems, new horizons, new goals, new resolves, new strengths, new relationships and new motivations. Most of these new things will be faced and undertaken with gladness and energy, but some will be faced with sadness and a sense of sorrow and weakness. The latter is where our Brotherhood can be a source of great strength if we will but allow it.  When your Hi 12 Brothers and Sisters offer their shoulders, their arms and hands in help, please accept them, for that is our Maker's way of coming into our lives at the time of our needs, His answers to your prayers for help.   Service to our fellow members of the household of faith is our first obligation.  That will be a hallmark of this Club's activity this year.  Most of the program we are building will be services to our members, visitation and transportation being the first things we are adding to our activities on your behalf.  John Erb, Ken Corey and Stewart Davis are leading us in visits to our Hi 12 family members who are needing
comforting visits while ill;   I will arrange transportation for those needing assistance in getting to and from the monthly Club meetings.  Renee Braun will continue to bring Sunshine thru the cards she sends. Please let us know of your and others' needs in these areas and we will see that those needs are met in loving ways.
